The Lousiville, Kentucky-based operator of KFC, Taco Bell and Pizza Hut will eliminate several hundred jobs, and relocate up to a couple hundred more, as part of a restructuring of its US business.

The restructuring is part of Yum! Brands strategy to sell more company-owned stores to franchisees, spokesperson Jonathan Blum told the Associated Press. Last month Yum!s third-quarter US operating profit fell 16 percent, due to surging commodity prices and lagging fried chicken sales.

The moves won't affect Yum!'s high-growth international operations, led by its robust unit in China. Strong overseas sales have more than offset sluggish US results.

Blum said that several hundred jobs will be eliminated at Yum!'s Louisville HQ, as well as at Taco Bell's headquarters in Irvine, California and Pizza Hut's headquarters in Dallas.

Also, up to a couple hundred more positions will be shifted from Louisville to the company's brands, Blum said.

Yum! also owns Long John Silver's and A&W restaurants.
