Disagree totally, this piece too often spoiled by being played too fast, relax, enjoy

Whilst it's good to have foreign orchestras embracing our British repertoire, no Uk orchestra could possibly have been this sloppy. The fault lies in Bernstein holding the tempo back for no good reason, so that the players' notes "fall between the cracks"

@DSCH12345 Your MOM is lousy.

@dbryandolman I agree -- Very sloppy, indeed! Intonation in the woodwinds is poor (difficult, granted...but still bad), and the ensemble playing around 0:40 is pretty lousy.

Remember we are not talking just the sea here. It's Sunday morning with church bells and people walking to church or going about their business. Perfect tempo with just that hint of menace running underneath indicating that although everything seems cheerful, all is not as it seems.

Leonard Bernstein did not conduct the premiere of Peter Grimes -- a fellow Reginald Goodall did. The definitive version is conducted by Britten himself.
I like the speed of this version, but it sounds a bit sloppy to me -- especially in the crucial brass parts which need to be very crisp and bright.

@bearsrider that's a pretty quick ocean, I trust the original recordings with britten at the baton but to each his own.

@ajf104 - I instead think It's a lil slow for my tastes ;)

Maravilloso!

This is also my favourite of the four interludes, Seeing this piece performed live is even more captivating, Especially the bells!
