@ozbt63 The Monks tick enough boxes to be considered the first bona fide Punk band, I reckon; primitive, repetitive rock music, fucked up haircuts, dressed in black from head to toe, songs with titles like 'I hate You', 'Shut Up', & singing about the Vietnam war. Plenty of bands sounded punky before them, but they didn't go the whole hog like The Monks did.

Because the first punk band that came out of that god forsaken land of Australia was of course the Boys Next Door. Shivers has to be one of the great songs.

@xreddragonx - no disagreement here - Who can say who was the first punk band? - it is a silly question - some rockabilly bands in the 50s would have been pretty close to punk but nobody remembers them today
