Songwriter's note: This one isn't really about me...yet...but my time's coming, just as it does for all of us if we stick around long enough.

I was inspired to create this (initially) because of a cover that Rebecca Shearing performed.

Her channel is http://www.youtube.com/user/bexboop878

Please check her out..she's a terrific singer and multi-instrument musician.

I would also like to thank another terrific YouTube person (juliereed2002) for her support and enthusiasm on this tune. That really helped me finally get this done! Her channel is

As always, thank you all for listening...and for your wonderful support of what I do.

My Reality
(Copyright 2009 by David Leggett)

Not long ago
There once was a time
I was younger, and stronger
And still in my prime
But then I got older
And slower in stride
Now I'm asking for help
And it's hurting my pride....

But there's some things I'm just not gonna change...

It's my reality
This is my reality
It's my reality
This is my reality

I once was an anchor
Folks depended on me
Now I'm learning I'm not tough
As I used to be
Now things hurt my body
More than they once did
Life's reminding me daily
I'm no longer a kid

So what am I now? A man....or a joke?

It's my reality
This is my reality
It's my reality
This is my reality

And it's still not so late
That I'm having to go
But I'm seeing the curtain
That closes the show
The young have made ready
They're taking my place
I don't like the changes
That I'm having to face....

I lay in my bed
With my life's greatest prize
And I can't help but wonder
If I'm less in her eyes
I once was a mountain
Steady as stone
But time's broken me down
And I can't hold my own

Is the love of my family.....just to tolerate me?

It's my reality
This is my reality
It's my reality
This is my reality

  • Ouch!

    Another from-the-heart truth cry.

    Well done, David.

    This really is MY reality,

    and you've nailed it.

    Thanks (I think).

    Shas

  • This is right from your heart and soul! Just a great folk style song with a country flavor! This is just great songwriting David! We can all understand these lyrics and time does catch up with all of us eventually. So well put my friend and very nicely sung and played! :))

You can do it all in the music field. You should have your own record company by now. lol :)

    Loved it!! Top stars! :))

  • And to think that this one started out as a great dance-song cover by Rebecca Shearing! lol

I feel sorry for the guy in this song. As I have posted, he's got his whole identity wrapped up in being "biggest and baddest". I tried to step inside his mind and world and imagine...hope I did a convincing job.

Thank you so much. I always try to write stuff uniquely and give it a different point of view....and do so with compassion, trying to understand.

  • lol...I know I'm singing "I" in this song but the song is not about me at all. I am just putting myself in the position of someone else when I sing that, but thank you so much for calling me a "nice person". Sometimes I really don't feel like one, and I never tire of hearing that.

I know what you mean with the "18 year old boy" comment too. Yes, it helps to be young at heart in certain ways, even if you're not young anymore. Great comments, thank you so much!!
