A project i worked on with my group for the class here at mica called Elements of Visual Thinking. Here is the meaning of it:
People die every day. In Baltimore, murder has added to this death toll like few other cities in America. Our group plans to create a large chalk drawing as a social commentary on the rate of murder in Baltimore and as it affects the world. By taking this drawing through a series of different media locations, it will parallel the way in which our message will grow as it becomes more and more accessible to the world. We will start our project by setting up a video camera to document the process. We will then begin to fill in a portion of the parking lot behind the Fox building with chalk outlines of people. We will continue to fill our selected space until it is a white surface. Two of us will be drawing, two will be lying on the ground as models and one will be monitoring electronics. We chose this space since it is secluded and few people besides ourselves will view the making of this image. Our next step is to project the video of the making of this image upon the side of the **** building, downtown. This video will show the whole creation sped up to fit in five to fifteen minutes. We will then videotape the projection and the responses of those who stop and view it. This new footage will be posted on the web. This will show the progression of our message from only among ourselves, then out to Baltimore and then out to the world. The image itself addresses some of the moral and social conflicts that emerge as we examine the increasing death rate. As the bodies pile up we lose sight of the individual and our emotion is separated from the facts. This ominous prospect is summed up in Stalins infamous words One death is a tragedy a million is a statistic.
