Paul Reed Smith Custom 24 versus Gibson Les Paul Standard
-Cabinet: Custom built 4x12 Cab with Celestion Vintage 30 speakers.

-2 mics: Shure SM 57 + Shure Beta 58. The main is the sm57 (90%), and the beta gives only a touch of "headroom" to the sound (10%). Sm57 on axis at the side of the speaker cone. The Beta58 right next to it and off axis. I know it's an unconvetional way to use the beta 58 (being a vocal mic) but it gives a little extra to the dry sound of the sm 57. And it makes the sound definately more natural, takes away of the tipical sm 57 character.

-Lexicon Omega Studio desktop recording studio (does a pretty great job)

-Macbook pro: Garageband for sound; iMovie for the rest. No effects, EQ, mastering.

Intro and outro song: Lynyrd Skynyrd - Still Unbroken

Enjoy it!
rock on

  • I love your guitars man. I'm about to order a new LP Standard and saw your vid right now. I'm begining to think I'm making a mistake . The thing is I'm from Mexico and down here there are no guitar centers to try these out. I'm also having doubts since I've read bad stuff about quality control by Gibson, and the durability of their necks. I love Gibson's fat tone, but I'm having these second thoughts. What would your advice be? I play rock mainly. Thank you!

  • @rodriguethe Dude if you like the sound of Les Pauls don't think about it too long. These are great guitars and if you don't smash them to the wall they'll not brake.

Anyways my Les Paul Custom has a broken/repaired headstock and she is still awesome, works perfect!!! So don't worry about these things.

  • That a fantastic clip! Prs is fantastic but the Gibson wins it for me! Warmer sound overall! Thanks a million and nice riffs. Keep on rockin.

  • @bluemask32 hey, what can i say... awesome man, i appreciate it a lot! thanks!

  • @Tylermartin7771 ummm... THE most successful and well known metal song ever. Metallica - Enter Sandman.

  • PRS is better clean, but the Les Paul goes unmatched when it comes to distortion. I listened to the Sweet Child of Mine riff and it sounded just like Slash on the recording. Yes, I do know he was using a Les Paul so it's kinda rigged, but the Les Paul absolutely has that sound I'm looking for.

  • awesome tone dude, and playing too!

  • I like Your playing and You have awesome gear! The sound at 6:20 is so nice.

  • I have a LP & a PRS Custom 24 & I love them both. My LP is fantastic since I put in a Seymour Duncan '59 neck / & JB in bridge. My PRS had 2 problems. 1) the volume knob is in my way when I play & 2) I didn't like the neck pick up. I switched it out with a Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates. Wow! What a difference. As far as which is better, neither. PRS has developed its own sound. It used to be the big two sounds; LP or Strat. PRS falls into its own niche because it has tonal qualities of both .

  • PRS sounds brighter becuz of the longer scale length, and clearer on the neck pickup becuz of the 24 frets, that makes the pickup fall off axis of the dead spot where phase cancellation occur and kill a lot of mid freq (happen to all 22 fret guitar). Both good guitar, is just the matter of taste ! My experience was, its easier to make PRS sounds fatter by tweaking the effect or amp, but harder to get rid the muddiness of LesPaul. PS: 12:56 face is priceless !! hahaha

  • The PRS sounds like a cleaner version of the Les Paul.

  • I think that prs is replica of fender + gibson so we can not comparison these two guitar. Gibson is better for the crunchy tone and heavy drive tone since it sounds like warmer. On the other hand, prs is squeeze between fender and gibson wrt its tone. However, Prs is good for people who want to get wide tone scale in one guitar but i prefer to use two guitar for get better sound.

  • PRS sounds better

  • the LP might sound fatter but the PRS has incredible clarity the LP lacks. PRS wins it for me.

  • I had been listening a conversation last weekend, where they were talking about which guitar is the best out there on the market and I decided to find out for myself on the internet.

I couldn't believe my eyes and was very amused when I coincidentally stumbled across this video :)

And oh yeah.... it seems that both guitars are f**** great!!! But horrible expensive...

By the way, you are such a better guitarist than my guitar teacher :)))
