But people have been trained since birth to believe that the difference between right and wrong is determined by the whims of "authority". This fact is unequivocally substantiated by the Stanley Milgram experiments on obedience. People have been trained to be slaves who outsource their understanding of reality to authorities.

Power is an illusion, for the most part people are either relatively happy or mostly appeased, as soon as you make an American (fat lazy and stupid for the most part but arrogant and rebellious) unhappy then all that "control" over the people will end.

How many people who have been evicted from their home said "oh, the government will fix it"? HA! People don't trust or like the government, NO ONE DOES, but they allow it to function so they can live their lives.
