Youth Speaks Seattle Grand Slam 2011 Round 1

Each year, the Youth Speaks Seattle Slam Series showcases some of the best in original youth spoken word poetry, dazzling with raw insight and impassioned performance. Join us this year as Arts Corps presents this incredible series and celebration of youth voice at Town Hall, where twelve teen poets compete to secure a spot on the 2011 Seattle Youth Poetry Slam Team.

The team will travel to the Bay Area in July to represent Seattle at the Brave New Voices International Youth Poetry Slam, which convenes young poets from over seventy different cities to compete and perform. Since 2007, HBO has produced Russell Simmons Presents: Brave New Voices, a documentary of the annual slam series that showcases the work of youth poets.

@LisaAnneLivesLife The yearly youth slam series will be starting up soon, in January, running through aprilish, with the finals in May. You have to be 19 or younger through july in order to slam. All the details will be forthcoming and announced on our facebook group and up on our website.

The sexiest thing alive

is watching someone spit emotion into a microphone

and explaining the feeling of being alone

telling the world what makes them hurt

and grounding opinions into our world's dirt

nothing is as beautiful or handsom

and a mouth shaping screams of some

Broken youth that's still managing to work here

and screaming their change to anyone who will hear.

I admire each and every one of these kids.
