I remember it well - UK, April 1974. It was re-released when it was discovered it was a big favourite of the non-mainstream-charts but hugely influential Northern Soul scene.

been playing this quite a bit on gold radio.Never realised it was so old .I was born in 67 . Great tune thanks for posting.Maybe should be covered.Posssibly by maybe Hard -fi or The Ceasers ??

I heard the Fall's cover of this and liked it, but never heard the original until now. That rough, fuzzy guitar was pretty daring for a Motown-related song at that time, and it's a surprisingly successful merging of that rock element and Motown's usual production ingredients. Hard to believe it's the same R. Dean Taylor who'd have a hit with "Indiana Wants Me" three years later.

They are mostly from the 1960's when I was young, and from my Motown collection from that time, as I've always been a Motown fan.
