Moving Salt Pan No 5 was part of 'Enabling Works' to prepare the Lion Salt Works for restoration. Lion Salt Works is the last open pan salt Works in Cheshire. It was built in 1894 and closed in 1986. It is now designated a scheduled monument owned by Cheshire West and Chester Council. Pan House 5 was built in 1965 to a traditional design and construction. The Enabling Works are described by archaeologist Andrew Fielding in a blog at www.lionsaltworks.blogspot.com
Rebuilding and restoration works are being now being planned. See www.cheshirewestandchester.gov.uk

  • why swap chains for slings

  • The chains were put on to guage the balance and the lifting frame. It was decided that the angle of the chains was too acute, so they were swapped for longer slings to get a better lift on the four corner lift points. Everything went smoothly and effortlessly. Look out for the time lapse sequence to follow on this channel.
