Salmon in a Dishwasher

http://www.tomscott.com - The idea of poaching salmon in a dishwasher has been around for a long time. Bob Blumer, the Surreal Gourmet, claims to have poached salmon in more than 100 dishwashers on 3 continents, and actor and gourmet cook Vincent Price is said to have once cooked it on Johnny Carson's Tonight Show. But there's no video evidence of it online yet, so I figured it was worth a try.

I came across your video, purely by accident. Yes, Vincent Price REALLY DID cook fish in a dishwasher on the Tonite show with Johnny Carson. I remember it as being a trout fish rather than salmon. If memory serves me correctly, the year of that Vincent Price appearance was 1976. I remember Vincent warning Johnny to only use the WASH cycle and never the DRY cycle. My experiments with such a poaching method proved him right.

You can do it with dirty dishes and detergent if you make it all water tight and you have the guts and confidence to eat if afterwards but if you're concerned about getting soap in your food then do it without soap and dishes and waste water and energy in the process. Either way both methods are risky/impractical.
