  • Winner of 9 Oscars, that is how good this movie really is. They should have given John Lone an Oscar because he did an amazing job here as Pu Yi.

  • ah...at 2:11...the cutest emperor!!

  • How on Earth is it possible that John Lohn was not even nominated for this?!?!?!!?

  • I just finished watching this in my world history class!

  • 5 dislikes? I see those 5 people are great fans of Twilight.

  • It seems like a beautiful movie, and they're all speaking English wow hahah The music is awesome, it's so Sakamoto Ryuichi indeed!

  • what makes you think China WILL NOT embrace freedom of expression? USSR did not collapse because of that reason. USSR collapsed because they focused on their social system instead of their economic system. China is doing the OPPOSITE. "Freedom of expression" will come AFTER China develops. Don't worry Xi Jin Ping who is the next Chinese leader is more liberal. Ever since the fall of Bo, the Chinese ppl will have more freedom.

  • Remember the one-party,authoritarian Soviet Union collapsed. The US remains but both were superpowers. China should learn from the USSRs mistakes. A China that does not embrace freedom of expression will not survive for long.

  • China is a great nation but it will only deserve to be a superpower if it throws off the shackles of communist censorship, torture, persecution, brainwashing and brutal human rights abuses which continue to this day.

When the statues of Mao are torn down, then China will deserve to be a superpower. At present it is only a great power.

  • China's tragedy is similar to Russia's tragedy... a deeply unfair feudalistic absolute monarchy system replaced ultimately by brutal communist dictatorship....

China has never known relative freedom

This was an excellent film and im pleased it included some of the horrors of the Cultural Revolution, notably the scene towards the end with the Red Guards (won't say any more- don't want to spoil it)

Anyway more big films should be made like this- there should be a Schindler's List for Maoism
