  • im as close as to an atheist as there is.. and i still love this song.. it does calm one's soul.. whatever you believe in (or in my case not)

there are a few typo's in the lyrics btw..

  • Say what you will about Cat's (Yusuf's) political/religious stances, the message is the same. I sing this song at Catholic Mass. More importantly, I sing it alone in my garden and to my son. It is a joyous song even to my atheist sister. Everyone I know seems to find solace in the lyrics. Must be a good thing. THAT is art.

  • Beautiful.

  • @ralvarados21: Nice to see I'm not the only atheist who enjoys this song! :3 My mom used to sing it to me when I was little. It holds a lot of wonderful memories from a simpler time within its lovely lyrics and melody.

  • I pray that you will find God. Jesus gave YOU a gift. Please find it.

  • @ralvarados21 I feel exactly the same. It makes me feel good.

  • I just found out that Cat Stevens wrote this song. I remember singing this song is church camp and I thought someone just put music to a hymnal. I also listened to a few of his other songs from the 1970s for the first time. I noticed so many comments are about his religion. I think Yusef is strong enough not to take all this personally but use his fame to help Americans see Islam in a different light than what we are taught on the news.

  • Peace is a good thing no doubt...but crying peace, peace when there is no peace is a very dangerous thing...praising God is a very good thing, but praising a little"g", if you will, is even more dangerous...we must know for certain that we are praising the God of the Universe and not a "g" that we have mistakenly fallen into by lack of discernment or tradition of family...awesome song...

  • we sing this song in my church sometimes
