hearing this song or any other song does from a video game or tv show does not make you any less "with it" cool or intelligent then someone who was brought up listening to it. Everyones music taste is due to outside influence- media, family or seeking it out yourself.

I just think that people who say "i knew this before Bioshock" really need to get a life.

Janis Joplin was a huge fan of Bessie's ! I can hear where Janis got some of her voice from.

Janis is the one who bought and paid for Bessie's gravestone ! That was classy for sure !

Derek and the Dominos do a fantastic version of this. Nice to finally discover this one.

After listening to Bessie Smith I now know where Clapton got his version of the song. This is the best cover of Jimmy Cox's song! Thumbs Up!

It doesn't matter if people heard this on Bioshock and love it. Let them appreciate a great song.

Game developers introducing the younger generation to old classics is a good thing.

Stop you moaning and let everyone enjoy the song.

Amazing. chills. unbelievable. I love how you go from Ma Rainy to Bessie Smith to Billie & Ella...just a great history of amazing female vocalists.

Well what I meant was that she paid the way for all african american women and others. That they can sing today. You know what I mean. I named them 3 women because those are the only one that I could think of at the time. This what I meant. I meant if she hadn't existed, we wouldn't have any african American Artist today. But you do have a point about how some of them today takes it for granted. And everyone has different talents you just have to be inspired. :)

Rihanna cannot be named in the same sentence as Whitney Houston or in the same context as Bessie Smith! Mariah Carey Barely makes the grade and that is only due to her immense vocal range, other than that she is totally talentless. The crap that people like Rihanna are responsible for now would make Bessie Smith, Nina Simone, Janis Joplin and NIna Simone etc. turn in their graves!!!
