@spiderbaby1958 Actually, Bob Ezrin prompted them to re-work it. When he came in to work on Love It To Death, he heard a live version from an earlier show, and helped them mold the song into what it became. Even after doing so, he struggled to convince Warner Brothers that it was a potential hit.

Wow. Just wow. A great version for sure, though it never would have gotten as much airplay as the tighter shorter version we know so well. Before Love it to Death, these guys were starving for a hit, "trying to catch a ride on that caddillac". This was a hit and they must have known it. This was their shot, no time to be artistes.
This was a band that once was known for making the audience run for the exits. They worked themselves into a tight outfit. It wasn't all about the gimmick.
