ok friend, if you need directions first look at the sky, find the direction of sun, it rises from EAST and set on WEST. if you face the east west is behind youSOUTH on your right and NORTH would be on your left. this will never change since the SUN always rises from the east. at night you may follow the stars..... i;ll tell yoy later. now go down the hills where water always rolls to the lowest spot. and good luck

okay. what if you are miles and miles and miles from an ocean. and if you head to the ocean, you could be walking alongside a river and never know, plus energy is wasting. best chance to find a river is DOWNHILL. where a river may be cutting through an mountain or hill. NEVER get lost on purpose. And whats with "you always need to know where you are in a situation." when that may be the cause of the situation. or "all lakes lead to the ocean" ive never heard of a moving lake, have you?
