McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds calls Obama a liar for suggesting Phil "Nation of whiners" Gramm could be McCain's Treasury Secretary, despite it having been reported in the NYT. He then repeatedly refuses to say Gramm won't be given the job.

I don't know what sort of rumor mill we are talking about on national television but it seems absurd. I think if we are going to talk about the issues, let's talk about tissues. Let's talk about honesty and which candidate is going to shoot straight with the American voters. When Barack Obama said john McCain's chosen Phil Gramm to be secretary of treasury when this election is not over, he is lying.

BOUNDS: It is an absurd thing to say. It would be as if I was to say Franklin Raines would head up the housing and urban development wing for Barack Obama.

SHUSTER: I have yet to hear you say -- Tucker, Tucker. The difference is the Obama campaign will tell us senate out he will not be part of the Obama administration. I still haven't heard you say Phil Gramm will not be part of McCain's administration.

BOUNDS: He stepped down from the campaign. He is not advising the campaign. These are the sorts of absurdity and it is all because Barack Obama gets away with things saying things are not true and then people believe them to be fact. It is absurd.

Since 1999, with a Republican Congress to help he passed broad sweeping deregulation of financial institutions (including insurance, investment and mortgage companies). Starting with the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act which removed all the post-depression banking controls. He is McCain's sr. advisor and he is one of the most powerful banking lobbyists in Washington! Gramm as Treasury secy. would be a nightmare.
