So what is comfort eating and how do you stop doing it? Well, you can define it as eating something that makes you feel better if you like, but we would define it pretty much as a habit that can be changed.
It can be a big, well established habit, can comfort eating, sometimes called emotional eating, but it is just a habit, nevertheless, and we have worked with client after client to help them to reprogram their relationship with food.
Diets dont work for most people, its that simple, although many live a life time of one failing diet after another. There are exceptions, but what really works effectively having your thinking retrained so that you have a healthier relationship with food. It isnt a question of willpower, either, when the new habits if eating healthy are established, and it often does not take long, then they become the automatic way of being, and you can get great comfort and satisfaction from eating fruit, vegetables and healthier food, eating it slowly for maximum enjoyment, and stopping eating when you are full.
The cure for comfort eating has not got anything to do with WHY you started comfort eating. The cure is all to do with training and reconditioning patterns of thinking and feeling so that your eating, and your life, is more automatically under your control.
