Colgate "Smile" Ad (1991)

Colgate "Smile" ad screening in New Zealand in 1991.

Overall this is a good ad, but there are a few things about it that I don't like. The one that always stuck out for me when this was on television was the girl in the play holding the star (near the start). It always seemed like bad acting to me, and I was amazed they put it in. I was rather young then, so I never thought about the possibility that it was actually meant to look bad.

I have two more Colgate ads yet to be posted, but I won't overload my subscribers with too many at once.

The now-grown-up "girl in the play holding the star" happens to be my girlfriend. She mentioned she'd been in a Colgate ad so we found it on here. Thanks for uploading it, but I have to say we're not impressed with your comment about her "bad acting"!

The director wanted it to look like a 'school production' - so actually, she must've acted very well! I know you more or less point that out - but still...

I can also confirm that I fall over like that each time she kisses me.

Thanks for the feedback. In my defence, all I can say is what I've already said. I didn't think about the intent of the director way back then, I was too young to appreciate those things.

I was however old enough to think the girl with the clown was cute, but that's another story.

As I get older my biggest fear is losing my Colgate smile.

I often have dreams about my teeth falling out and it's not that I'm not a vain person, I just can't help but think about poor oral hygiene doing in some of the greatest and most interesting figures in history.
