Here is my very first video showing how I put together my brake drum forge. I used black pipe nipples (2 of them 6in and 1 is 12in) that I purchased at the local Oil Field supply and the rotor I picked up for free at one of the local mechanic places. This is my first video so the camera work is curtosey of a 20 dollar Logitech I picked up at the local Walmart. It is not that great but I hope it gets the point across. Thanks for watching and if you have any questions I will try and answer but I doubt I could answer them as well as Trent at Purgitoryironworks so why not check out his site.

  • nice vid, im a blasksmit/knifesmith myself but i built my forge out of firebrick, good luck with your work, this is becomeing kind of a dying art and its nice t see new people taking up the trade

  • Thank you!

  • excelent, going to build one of these as i need a forge to heat up 3/8th solid steel rivets for fuel do you guys just use anthracite coal or s there something else i should use.

  • Yes you can use coal with this set up just be sure to have something over the hole at the bottom where the air comes up so the coal or charcoal does not fall through but the air can still get in. I use charcoal because coal is not as available where I am.

  • nice find on the blower! crazy what people throw away right? =D

  • good job. I'm wanting to build one of these. I build a forge last year from a cement drain pipe. There always seems to be road constuction going on so I just happened to get the phone number of the right person and they were happy to give me a scrap piece. It works nicely but obviouly not portable. Thanks

  • Great! Looking forward to more from you.

  • Man, you ROCK woman! Right on :)

  • Very nicely done video. Bare feet might not be classy, but they sure are cute. ;)

With the low quality video camera, you should try slow movements, and get as much natural light without direct sunlight as you can.

As per the blower, nice find. It's amazing what people throw out isn't it.

Your video is inspiring. I hope you do a lot more.
