"The essence of the game is a trap."
(Excerpt from Pathologic's official website)

Inspired as it is by the novel "The Plague" by French existent-ialist writer Albert Camus and employing startling alienation effects that would make German dramatist Bertold Brecht wet his pants, it's certainly no exaggeration to say that Russian developer Ice Pick Lodge's 2005 adventure/survival horror title "Pathologic" is one of the most cerebral and mind-bogglingly ambitious computer games ever produced.

However, the relentlessly grim atmosphere, slow pacing and repetitive, unforgiving nature of the actual gameplay is not going to charm everyone and, sadly, the game's complex Russian script (apparently very impressive in it's original form) has been butchered in an extremely poor English translation.

Nonetheless, I'm going to try to play "Pathologic" and upload a few videos now and then (by no means a complete playthrough), so that more people can find out about this intriguing and totally unique game. Please make sure to switch to YouTube's high quality mode if you want to be able to read the text (or better yet, visit my GameVee page instead).

  • yeeeah this was the only game that ever caught me! I LOVED the depth of the characters and the story. "pathologic" got so many bad critics, but I really don´t get why, it´s so deep and complex and ATMOSPHERIC, very addictive. and I usually don´t play.

  • i love this game

  • Gamevicio!!!

  • i love the design and decor of the houses, plus the artwork on the walls. I took plenty of screengrabs so when I get myself some new canvases I can recreate them in oils :)

  • this is a really great game, i would love to see it as a movie

  • Voice acting isnt all there is to a game, the fun of playing the game is much more important

  • There needs to be some massive undertaking to retranslate and RE-VOICE ACT the entire game. seriously fans would do a much better job of both.

  • "Be quiet you. *yawn* You lie. *cricket cricket*"

  • I've played the russian version of this game where voice acting is much better. Couldn't survive more than 6 days - died either by hunger or by sickness, or the guards killed me. They kept running even after being shot in the head and punched me down in seconds.

  • OMG it's awful... Voice cast is horrible. They are not like that..... T_T

  • Pink, I haven't played but from what I hear, you absolutely MUST finish your main day's quest before midnight. If you don't complete the main quest each day, you'll basically be unable to finish the game. Other than that, do your best to stock up on food, medicines, and bandages... you can't beat the game at all if you're not alive. ;)
