Tortilla - Wild Pony (1971) From the album "Little Heroes"

This very cool song is from the album Little Heroes, and this record is actually a real bootleg with a white label! They made 500 copies of this bootleg.The original label and matrix number are:Catfish 5C 056-24381 1971.The cover was designed by the famous artist Hans van Draanen (1931-1987) Hans lived and worked in Amsterdam, Curacao, and a large part of his life in Bergen NH.He exhibited at the Arts Centre in Bergen.
A little Biography:
Tortilla was a band from the Northwest of Holland, Bergen to be precise, formed by the brothers Emile and Jan-Piet den Tex. Emile had played in bands such as Turquoise and Circle. The other members were Henk Haanraads (guitar, ex- SQ '66), Willem Schoone (bass, ex-Rob Hoeke) and Gerad Groothuis (drums, ex-Zoo and Orange Bicycle).
The band was around for a short while and released just this one album. Tortilla was at that time called one of the numerous followers of the American country rock.
If they had listened better in those days they should have established that this band was more into a mix of pub rock and folk rock, British orientated also. Only some of the ballads show a obvious Neil Young influence.
Almost all songs were written by Jan-Piet den Tex. His brother Emile composed the melancholic ballad " Back To The Roots"
The whole album, produced by Brainbox guitarist John Schuursma has a laidback, relaxed sound.

Dit lekkere nummer (doet niet onder voor een song van bijvoorbeeld The Rolling Stones) is afkomstig van het album Little Heroes,en deze grammofoonplaat is trouwens een echte bootleg met een wit label!
Van deze bootleg zijn er 500 exemplaren geperst.
De hoes is ontworpen door de bekende kunstenaar Hans van Draanen (1931-1987)
Hans woonde en werkte in Amsterdam, Curacao en voor een groot deel van zijn leven in Bergen NH.Hij exposeerde onder meer in het Kunstenaarscentrum Bergen.

De band was maar voor korte tijd bij elkaar,en bracht alleen maar dit ene album uit. Tortilla werd op dat moment een van de vele volgelingen van de Amerikaanse country-rock. Als ze beter hadden geluisterd in die dagen,dan hadden ze kunnen vaststellen dat deze band meer was dan een mix van pub rock en folk rock,en ook Brits georiënteerd. Slechts enkele van de ballads hebben duidelijke Neil Young invloeden. Vrijwel alle nummers zijn geschreven door Jan-Piet den Tex Zijn broer Emile componeerde de melancholische ballad "Back To The Roots" Het hele album, geproduceerd door gitarist John Schuursma van de band Brainbox, heeft een stressloos en ontspannen geluid.
