Pervez Musharraf Resignation Speech (August 18, 2008 - 1pm) - COMPLETE with ENGLISH subtitles (Part 2/10)

Prior to speech, there was media speculation either way and it was not clear

for much of the speech what he would say.
Masterful management of secrecy of the outcome.
Nail-biting speech revealed Musharraf's decision at the very end.

Musharraf had two choices:
1) challenge the impeachment (hard to make stick)
2) resign to avoid a prolonged process - since the incompetent government

would have trouble prosecuting (they had not even revealed charges, or

defined the process for impeachment)

In my opinion he was less of a problem for the incompetents as President.

Now he will be freer to criticize them. I predict he will join or start a

political party (most probably with Sheikh Rasheed and others).

9 years of Musharraf brought instability, terrorism and a bad name for Pakistan. Mush proved once and for all that a bad general is worse than any bad politician by all the instability he brought and the institutions he destroyed. Mush needs to be charged with treason to send a message to the next would be Tin Pot dictator. After 2 or 3 cycles of imperfect democracy, Pak will move forward if idiots like Musharraf stay out and let the nation develop. Pakistan Zindabad!

The stupid civil society of Pakistan who voiced return to democracy shud not cry foul of the current democratic set up. These same vigilantees are now calling for zardari government to quit and then they blame the army for take overs. The people of Pakistan themselves are to blame for army take overs.
