I think that Lt. Col Peters was outrageous in saying that the problem is Islam. Like all other groups, the problem is extremism, and with over a billion Muslims worldwide, it statistically creates a large extremist group.

I would have to disagree with your overall argument. I agree that in the past people must have realized the social problem of humans needing hope to live in times of desperation, and that without religion there would have been more anarchy; to say there would "total anarchy" is most likely a stretch. You can still have law enforcement.

I'm also aware that morality and philosophy developed from religion. However, like many things in the past, religion is outdated and needs to be discarded.

It's only natural to attempt to draw on something bigger than yourself in times of desperation. However, to have a perpetual faith in that nonexistent entity, even in times of peace and calm mindedness, is irrational and delusional though.

Santa is fun for kids, but i doubt most commit suicide when they find out there is no magical fat man.

Lastly, the survival instinct is the most powerful of them all. The desire to live is hardwired into us, and even at our most desperate, it takes an extremely focused and highly conscious mind to actually go through with suicide.
