Sammy gave the band four albums at #1 on the Billboard charts and more #1 singles. If winners are judged by popularity through sales, not just brow-bashing opinions, Sammy would win on all fronts. That said, any real VH fan knows that both the Red Rocker and DLR, in combination with the VH Brothers and MA, accomplished an amazing career of great rock music. The best to all.

I think it's about equal, but everyone of course prefers Roth :/ It's sad that they forget that Sammy was in the band twice as long, and produced just as many singles with 2 fewer albums.

I agree Konig..a preference of one to the other sure, but I did appreciate both..As for the new VH CD...it kicks ass!! Heavy as hell! I miss MA but Wolfie is very very good. Nothing like a nephew Uncle rhythm section..ha

@BillyVA Popularity and sales don't always mean the product is better. Look at today's crap like Chris Brown and Kanye West. Sammy's era was a totally different sound, softer with much more production and commercial appeal. David's era was revolutionary hard rock with inventive guitar licks and solos ruling the day. I think the early era has stood the test of time whereas the Sammy era seems dated to a particular time and place, the late 80s and synthesizer pop rock.

@PowerMetalEuphonist Oh, definitely. Van Halen 3 was the only album Gary Cherone made with Van Halen, and Van Halen 3 sucked. Gary Cherone wasn't even inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame along with the other members due to not having a very positive influence. He was in Extreme, a pretty poor music group, so that should tell you something right there. It's too bad really, because Gary Cherone is a nice guy. However, you don't make good music just by being nice. It requires talent, too.
