In this example i play one of my cute songs using wavetables controlled by Velocity and a technique i call MSEG strumming. This is only one patch and its difficult to master but its very rewarding one you do.

  • Can you explain, how you get on the left side of the VST the OSC1, cause in my version, there's only a black hole, and you cannot select that or something?.

  • @ViNcEnT1988888 What you select or create in center will display on left and right. So to see something you need to create something in center. Like an OSC or VCF

  • This is Badass, I've just downloaded Zebra, I'm anxious to try it, and to be dissapointed... Bitter sweet. I just got really excited upon hearing this song, and have high hopes of creating a sound somewhat nearly to this. Mike, any suggestions? where can one start?

  • @Eblanc Learn the basics doing subtractive synthesis first (just like any other normal synths) Each of the 4 OSC can function as a wavetable player. Each wavetalble can hold up to 16 different waveforms. Now imagine those 16 waveforms were Tones like the ones you find on an Organ, the first tone is the bass, second is 1 octave higher, next is a 5th higher, next is 2 octaves higher etc... Imagine you control what tone is played by having velocity control the waveforms, thats what i did here :)

  • @michaelkastrup Ok, I'm kind of digesting this slowly. But I'm gonna save it, and keep coming at it until I understand exactly what you mean. In the meantime, is there any course, tutorial or anything you'd like to suggest for me to understand. And thanks dude. :D

  • @Eblanc Start learning by using only 1 OSC and 1 VCF and dont get intimidated by all the other possibilities. In the bottom part of Zebra you find a menu with Global-Osc1-Osc2-Osc3 etc...Click on Osc 1 and you will see 16 waveform slots, select a slot. Change GeoMorph to Spectroblend Mode, draw waveforms in ALL 16 slots. Return to the OSC 1 module, right click the circle next to Wave circle, select LFO 1, turn up the circle with left mouse, you should now have made your first moving wavetable :)

  • Nice melody and good sound.

  • @michaelkastrup : Thank you for your reply! I have watched the video again with this in mind. Very nifty trick - but I can imagine why this would be a trick that's very hard to master. Also, it's hard to believe this is only one patch; there are just so many different timbres. From the bell-like sound to the Vangelis-like lead sound. Very, very nice. Hope you will make a sound set with all these 80's synth sounds... :)

  • @zenstories :) Well MSEG strumming is when i use MSEG as an envelope on filters. As you can see on the notes played they dont seem to fit the rhythmic style but only the chords played. The rhythmic comes from MSEG and delay. On one bar of held chords the MSEG will trigger the filter 4 times in a downward slope, this gives it a kind of effect like playing a guitar. If i play a chord in glissando style the MSEG will repeat this glissando 4 times a bar until the held chord is stopped.
