The UCSB chapter for EducationGeneration (www.educationgeneration.org) organized Santa Barbara's first Flash Mob Freeze on State St., on October 18th, 2009. The Flash Mob Freeze was included in the worldwide event STAND UP AGAINST POVERTY (www.standupagainstpoverty.org).
We rallied at De La Guerra Plaza, and headed to one of State St.'s busiest portions, only to surprise all when the whistle was blown, and about 70 people froze in place, for 5 min.!
Here is the first video of the event.
You can find some local media coverage here: http://www.noozhawk.com/local_news/article/101809_freeze_locals_stand_up_agai...

Special thanks to all that made this happen!

  • very cool - wish I had known about it beforehand so as to participate

  • In the beginning, a participant, holding the hands of her two young daughters, asked me: "Do you want help to round up the crowd?" I said, yeah! After being very competent, I thanked her, to which she replied: "I'm used to it, you see, I am a mom!"

  • this was amazing
