  • Bluecollar, the pattern at Lake Hood requires a left turn in that direction. If he would've turned into the wind he'd fly into the Anchorage International Airport's pattern where the big jets take off and land.

  • I hate flying in small planes when it's windy like that. It's an experience and a half!!

  • wow that was rough. no wonder the change the engine mounts

  • @BLUECOLLARPILOT You flown on lake hood in the wind?

  • @yesterway Was just there yesterday and it appears that not only is there enough room, there is a lot of excess room. Maybe the technique that you are using needs some refinement.

  • As an old flight instructor, Mel Twitchell told me, they'll take all the wind you can give them.

  • Lake Hood is not big enough for aircraft to safely operate.

  • @truedanielg

Yeah. Especially when your home airport has 500KV that you miss by about 20 feet everytime you land.

  • Someone should remind BLUECOLLARPILOT that an airplane will fly just as well upwind as it will downwind and that the ability to maintain lift in any airplane is dependant solely on relative airflow. The allowance you make for decreasing performance windshear would be identical regardless of the direction you turn. Maybe a little more aerodynamics and theory of flight 101 for BLUECOLLARPILOT

  • lol nice

  • Bad as it was, you might notice that Rust's hasn't had an accident of any sort in, what, ages? Ever? Still, I'm certainly glad I wan't on it. I don't think there'd be enough barf bags on board!

  • Surf's up dude! I used to work out there and have seen many landings, some of which you wonder if maybe their Guardian Angels weren't working overtime.
