After their "Great Debate" (see our public hearings blog - http://www.amnesty.org.au/yourhumanrights/comments/21253 - for more details), Campaign Coordinator Jenny Leong asks Bob Carr and Susan Ryan whose views they are representing, and asks them to comment on the fact that, so far, those working with community groups and connected with people suffering human rights violations all seem to support some form of Charter, while those who have had their rights protected by priveleges throughout their lives tend to be those against a Human Rights Act. Bob Carr replies that he represents no-one but himself. Susan Ryan is speaking on behalf of the Human Rights Act for Australia Campaign Committee, which has consulted extensively with commnuity orgs since 2005. She also represents the Australian Human Rights Network, a network of some 72 community organisations, which represent overall a network a network of around half a million people mostly working at the coalface of delivering community services throughout Australia.
