Here is a little video showing how I strip resin and plastic. I use simple green, available undiluted in large jugs from Wal Mart.

For metal, just use laquer thinner. It strips the paint right off but would melt plastic.

  • PLEASE RESPOND!! i need to know how much you diluted the simple green for use on plastic miatures, i used it with 1:10 about and all it did was take the black wash off. please help, i cant strip minis without your help

  • SInce it is so reusable I would just be safe and not dilute it at all. I pretty sure the spray bottle comes prediluted. The big jugs are not. I could be wrong on the spray bottle though.

So if you dont use it for anything else anyway, just use it straight.

I diluted mine because I had to fill such a huge tub and the filter caused it to be more effective anyway. Resin is also a lot easier to strip than plastic.

  • does the simple green remove paint from the metal models?

  • Yes but if you are doing metal minis ONLY then laquer thinner works in about five minutes versus a day or two. It melts plastic and resin though!

  • that is what i figured but i have simple green and dont have laquer thinner

  • Ah well then use the Simple Green, by the time you get a chance to go and buy thinner they will be stripped already.

Simple Green is in fact available in the UK. Search for their uk website... you can't get it in the shops afaik.

  • dude... genius. I use Simple Green for my plastics and it works just sitting. but the fish filter is genius. And I'm glad to know simple green works for resin. Just a little scared because resin is softer so thought that it might get ruined by even something like simple green. For metal I use almost any cleaner I have at the moment. Pewter is so resistant to so many corrosive cleaning products it's awesome. Pinesol, Windex, even nail polish remover if my sis lets me. but thanks for genius idea.

  • fish filter is a clever idea.

  • OMG its already working! i could see the resin was white already on some parts. i was worried some of the thicker parts were not gonna clean up. but when i picked up the part it rubbed right off on my fingers. gonna let it soak for a couple more hours and then start doing some scrubbing. THANKS ALOT FOR THIS! :)

  • trying this exact setup right now on an old resin garage kit i want to redo. hoping this works! :)

  • What are the active ingredients of simple green, want to find a UK alternative. Thanks very much

  • Thats ingenious man. This makes me feel alot more comfortable about buying resin minis. I'm going get my hands on some Smog 1888 minis.

  • Damn, i wish i'd seen this earlier. i'm almost positive my model railroad shell got pitted by the Alclohol i used on it. People keep insisting that alcohol would be fine, should have looked deeper!

  • wow i feel dumb for not thinking of the fish filter thats genius lol

  • I love the sound it makes :P
