2012 Oscars! Movie Irv predicts the Academy Awards nominations by making some unusual surprise guesses in keeping with the already-unpredictable Oscar season (with Brett Ratner and Eddie Murphy replaced by Brian Grazer and Billy Crystal). What is Irv predicting about Martha Marcy May Marlene, Woody Allen (Midnight in Paris), Elizabeth Olsen, Jean Dujardin (The Artist), Christopher Plummer (Beginners), Jessica Chastain and Octavia Spencer (both from The Help)? • Yeah where's Hugo? It only led with ELEVEN noms!

  • @yapokpudding Wouldn't it be interesting to see the Scorsese movie pull off a mammoth upset --and isn't it also interesting that it's not seen as even close to being the favorite to win though it leads in nominations. Anyway thanx for watching & commenting & check out Irv's final predix (a couple of which I really disagree with!) :)

  • where is ' J. Edgar' and the best actor Leonardo DiCaprio????

  • @11msmarish Yes, I suppose Clint (or his movie) didn't make the impression he usually does on the Academy with J. Edgar.

  • @yapokpudding Hugo is a longshot in all but a few of the technical catagories

  • @MoviesUnlimitedInc well... he just got nominated for best director

  • @onepiecefan74 Good point :) Tho I think with True Grit the Coens were a bit less of a surprise because they rode a wave of many other nominations for the pic (and it was included in the PGA, if I remember rightly, while Tree was not.). I (Irv's camera guy and your humble correspondent) would love to see Malick get the nod. It just seems the tide is not exactly with him (or the movie, for that matter). Perhaps its token nom will be for cinematography.

  • @MoviesUnlimitedInc

True. But didn't the Coen Brothers get a nomination for true grit last year with no DGA Nomination. As did the director for the reader in 2008. I think if there's to be any dark horse in the director category it will be Malick.

  • @onepiecefan74 Well, yes. But at this point, that would come as a genuine shock due to his being ignored in the DGA nominations (and "Tree of Life" in general being overlooked otherwise). I have a feeling it's gonna be one of "those" films they talk about years hence having been so wrongly ignored. Thanx for watching & writing in :)

  • Malick should get a nomination for director
