Kim Jong-Il is believed to have arrived in China early Monday morning in his personal armored train. Kim and his entourage spent the day in the port city of Dalian. The visit was not made public, but was unofficially confirmed when a Japanese press photographer snapped a photo of Kim in Dalian on Monday.
From there, Kim is believed to have headed to Beijing to meet with Chinese leaders. It is likely he'll ask for economic aid as well as diplomatic support.
The impoverished North Korean state took a turn for the worse last year after a bungled currency reform. The United Nations World Food Program says it will run out of aid for the North Korean people as soon as next month, according to Bloomberg Businessweek. It comes as North Koreas recent nuclear activities have prompted many nations to impose economic sanctions and stop making aid donations.
Despite the North Korean regimes internal and diplomatic debacles, it has continued to find support from the Chinese Communist Party. And Chinese leaders may grant Kims request for aid to keep its old long-time ally afloat.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu would not confirm Kim's visit, but said on Tuesday that China would continue to develop a friendly and cooperative relationship with its neighbor.

They waste more manpower on eye-popping parades and human Jumbotron displays. The DPRK did well enough under Kim Il Sung and lots of Soviet foreign aid.
