Um... I find it interesting to see just how inaccurately that the banshee is portrayed.
"Banshee" comes from the Gaelic "bean-sidhe", meaning "woman of the fairy folk". With her foresight, she appears near a family's house and wails and sobs through the night, to warn them that death is near for one of them. She is not malevolent, only a messenger. The sound of her lament is to ready the family for the death.
