This is pretty much paint by numbers alternarock, but given today's dumbed down music scene should have loads of commercial potential, especially since the singer has a pretty decent delivery (she's kind of what would happen if Bjork tried to be Natalie Merchant).
@easyfriend71, I hear what you say. By the way, I went to your YouTube site and noticed you playing an old blues lick, and have David Bowie and Howlin' Wolf as two of your favorites. So, why am I confused by your response to me about tired of listening to the same "worn-out" music. This song, however, was not saved as one of your favorites. Hey, whatever floats your boat man, rock on.
@whitato1 Frankly, your list of guitar players is boring; I am definitely tired of hearing the same blues-rock canon of names and bands repeated ad nauseum by aspiring "ax men."
(b) My response is not about music theory: it is about played-out notions. When a thing is simple but carries so much in its basic countenance-that is a thing of beauty. Transcribing it in minutes? Yes, but can you write it and make such a simple thing so good?
@easyfriend71 I will take this response as your knowledge of music theory. But that doesn't imnpress me, as this music doesn't. I could transcribe this in minutes. I'll leave "technique" to studio musicians. Give me "feel" any day from the likes of Clapton, Trower, Vaughan, BB King, Gilmour, Peter Green, Muddy Waters, etc. over "technical players". These guys do not belong in either camp, yet. But everyone must start somewhere and they are tight. Let's see what they come up with down the road.
@whitato1 right, and the "lead" "guitar" player should do some "shredding", and the bassist should play some inversions for no reason at all, and the "lead" singer should be able to sing in three octaves and do some wild trilling, because being good means you play off of technique instead of "the feel."
You can always tell a rookie guitar player by how far their fingers move from the fretboard. Look at the bass player at 1:18 and the "lead" guitarist (just playing notes and power chords) at 2:20. I like the atonal character of the music and the lead singer. They just need better talent on the axes!
i'm pretty sick of guitars right now...... so i can't really comment either way. i can say it's alot better than most the stuff i've heard on this channel.
