I decided to go to the Illinois River bridge to get some action there. I ended up getting the bridge going down, and the train crossing it. HBR 5008 leads long hood forward on its way to Streator.
Enjoy!

  • This is great!! Is the bridge operator actually in that little 'hut' in the middle on the lift section of the bridge?? Beautiful location and btw train not bad either, LoL!!

  • Yes, he climbs a ladder from the mainline up to the part that goes up and down, then climbs another ladder to the but

    how old school lol

    oh and thanks a lot!

  • Thanks. And-- is this ONLY a local line, or does BNSF use this also?? That is a nice little park too there alongside the tracks-- would be a nice place to "relax and catch some trains". However, if just locals, probably not a lot of RR traffic??

  • They Illinois Railway owns this line, and they only use it on tuesdays and thursdaysfor one trip.lol

The nearest BNSF to Ottawa is about 25 minutes away both north and south.

  • That's a good catch. I see a little time shift editing going on there... which I appreciate. (You've got to get yourself a tripod just so you don't have to be one for these long takes. Heh.)

  • I know you don't like long videos so I knew I had to edit it, it took 5 min to get the bridge lol

I don't like them, they look nerdy and people will be staring at me and yeah......

    lol

    thanks bill!

  • Love that siren..sounds like something out of a Wile E.Coyote cartoon! I live in Southern California, and the Long Beach S.F.Heim lift Bridge [it's similiar to Sacramento's Tower Bridge] also uses a siren when lifting and closing.]

  • Wow, nice catch with the bridge siren in the beginning! That's a Sterling Little Giant siren, dating back to the 1920s-30s.

  • Cool bridge!

Nice horn on that train too!

  • Yeah, I know. That's one of the reasons that I try to shoot in rural locations.

  • I know you dont like to sit and watch a 5 minute video, so I edited it shorter, which I knew I had to do. (it took 5 min to get the bridge down)

I dont like tripods, I feel nerdy and people are staring at me and what not.

    lol

    thanks!
