Scott Walker cheapshots Aaron Ward with a suckerpunch to the face, on May 10, 09. Walker received 2 for instigating, 5 for fighting, and a 10 minutes misconduct. Ward received 2 for roughing.

Ward: "The altercation started with Matt Cullen when he slashed me in the back of the legs. I was simply telling him I was not happy with it, we were standing in front of the net, we were jawing... Obviously someone... That was a well crafted statement for Scott Walker, because I don't know any hockey player who ever used the word 'engaged' to describe a fight... I don't remember a single word being said, I was looking at Matt Cullen and and the period of time that which the left glove, left hand came across, I didn't even see his right glove off his right hand, so when it came across, when I knew his glove was off was when it was a foot from my face."

"The best part about this whole situation is that the first approach they took was, he was in there because Matt Cullen has a history of concussions, now when they realized that uh, when the following action was a punch to the head, then that story goes out the door, and it would also involve a 3rd man in with Scott Walker, so they dropped that pretty quick. And then they went to, we were engaged in a conversation, which if you watch the video I didn't see him and I didn't talk to him, my hands were beside my side thinking for sure its just a usual scrum, gloves on, take a punch, thats no big deal, when its 3 minutes left in the game nothing big can happen. Out of convenience they went to another story... Its a convenient story that the NHL accepted, I think if you guys in the media accept that, you're a bunch of sheep. Its a convenient excuse... that just allows people to get off scot free, and not have to deal with it."
