Mochitsuki is the traditional mochi-pounding ceremony in Japan.

Polished glutinous rice is soaked overnight and cooked. The cooked rice is pounded with wooden mallets (kine) in a traditional mortar (usu). Two people will alternate the work, one pounding and the other turning and wetting the mochi.

  • mochi is an absolutely DELICIOUS rice-cake thingy. "mochitsuki" is the name of the "party" (i guess you could call it a party/gathering/ceremony) where you MAKE mochi.

  • @YukiXia55 : I am not Japanese. This is Japanese rice cake I guess. They make this in new year. I never eat it before but I think the rice cakes are delicious.

  • I don't even know what mochitsuki is!
