GP Super Sportster EP Brushless Conversion
- Video for Mile High R/C Buy Back program
- Swapped out the old parts which were old technology and replaced with the new technology. Boy does it make a difference. I kept the same prop, a 12x10 E-prop that came with the ARF.
- Reason for the upgrade: I wasn't too happy with having to fly at full throttle to keep it from becoming a field decoration (aka lawn dart), plus I knew that it was capable of so much more. For a $120 ARF, it was a real bargain and the electric aspect of it caught my eye. For about $100 I replaced the motor, ESC, and battery of which this video shows the end result - I am extremely happy and pleased with the outcome. I now only need slightly above half throttle for straight and level flight.
Thanks goes to Mile High R/C (milehighrc.com) - great motors at great prices.
Old Stuff:
Thrustmaster 550 w/Gearbox @ 2.1:1
2100mAh 8.4V NiCd
25A ESC w/BEC
New Stuff:
Mile High R/C 3548-5 Brushless Outrunner Motor (~30A draw on full throttle)
Skywing 80A ESC w/BEC
ECPower 2200mAh(30C) or ECPower 4000mAh(15C) 3S LiPos - whatever I feel like that day.
I don't have specifics on temperatures but she's cool to the touch upon landing.
Enjoy the video - I hope to inspire!
Good video! I've seen the lackluster performance of this plane at my field. Yours is much better. I didn't think you would have to use an 80A ESC, but I'm new to electrics, so...
