OK, so I was looking online myself for a HOW-TO GUIDE on upgrading the RAM on the Acer Aspire One series NETBOOKS, but to no avail I couldn't find anything regarding this particular model type. AOD255.

So ... when I purchased my new netbook I decided to make a video on how-to upgrade the RAM. This is my 1st 'upgrade tutorial' type video so I'm kinda nervous and stuttering and I'm a bit shaky with the camera and the picture sometimes goes fuzzy. If you can get past that I'm sure this video will be quite informative and helpful to you in upgrading the ram. Its a very simple process and it can be done in about 10-15 minutes, with patience =).

The RAM I used in this video to upgrade my NETBOOK is as follows:

Mushkin Essentials 2GB DDR2 667MHz PC2-5300 CL4 SODIMM

I recommend either using this same type of memory or the KINGSTON brand of SODIMM memory modules as that is the make of the 1GB stick that comes with the system.

Kingston ValueRAM 2GB 667MHz DDR2 Non-ECC CL5 SODIMM (KVR667D2S5/2G)
=================================

Once you upgrade the ram and uninstall all the pre-bundled 'BLOATWARE' you will notice that the AOD255 runs pretty quick. Although I am disappointed with the lack of features in 'WINDOWS 7 STARTER' this can also be fixed with a quick WINDOWS ANYTIME UPGRADE.

I manged to find a good deal and I purchased a WINDOWS ANYTIME UPGRADE KEY to HOME PREMIUM on eBay for $30 USD. I notice it runs much better and I am satisfied to have the full functions of Windows 7 which should have been included with the netbook from the start.

Windows 7 Starter? Microsoft what where you thinking?? =(

  • Hum i'm french and i don't understand everything.. Is it possible to put a memory higher than a 2GB ?? For exemple a 4GB will be compatible ?? Thanks !

  • @Enguee59 Sorry no. These motherboards chipset max out support at 2GB maybe newer models will support 4GB but so far I only know of 2GB max RAM in a 1 DIMM slot NETBOOK.

Désolé, pas il ne sera pas. Ces cartes mères chipset max sur le soutien à 2GB. jusqu'à présent je ne connais que 2 GB de RAM max dans un netbook 1 emplacement DIMM.

  • I have been check that my Acer netbook is currently DDR 2 RAM, Can I upgrade my RAM by DDR 3?

  • @staffersteward no, you can only use the RAM TYPE designed for your computer/laptop/netbook. DDR2 = DDR2, DDR3 = DDR3. You cannot mix them!!

  • 9 people broke their ram when they were putting it in

  • @ZerkPureFTW great comment sir ;) LMAO. how else can you explain the negatives, lulz

  • Nice tutorial. Horrendous design, Acer. Wow.

  • Bought 2GB of memory from Crucial. This worked perfectly

    2GB 204-PIN DDR3 256MX64 SODIMM PC3-8500 CL7

Upgrade for a Acer Aspire One D2

  • Your video really helps. Thanks!

  • Keyboard ribbon cable:

The connector on the mainboard has two parts. The bit that lays on top of the cable is a hinged latch, about 2mm deep. Lift the exposed edge with a plastic tool or fingernail. If you use a metal screwdriver you may damage the ribbon cable. When open, the ribbon cable will come out easily. To reassemble, carefully hold the ribbon in place and make sure it is seated all the way against the back of the connector, then push down the latch with a finger or a plastic tool.

  • thanks it works fine , credits man

  • @abobo1 Thanks for the fast response ! :)
