my hamster opened his door every night and then came running into my room (he was in the bathroom cuz there it was much warmer)
he then settled onto my sofa and slept there. he was so cute...

You can use a wire to lock it in place....one of my mice can open the doors so I lock them with wires and BAM...can't open them.
