i was there form dec. 04 to nov. 05. for anyone to say a that a unit fucked it up is ignorant. the place always has been and always be a shithole. Im glad i was at mchenry and not one of the big fobs( did 2 later tours at big fobs and they suck).
I was attached to 1/327 of the 101st, there from 09/05-03/06. I don't know if we "fucked everything up," as some commenters seem to suggest, but I'd be happy to have that discussion. I'd like to see a group or something like that for people who served at McHenry. It was definitely a special place. I'd be very interested to hear from anyone who was there to see the end of McHenry and the final handoff to the Iraqis.
I'm grateful for this video. I've got nothing but respect for anyone who spent a little piece of his life living and working out of McHenry. This video is from the Montana/Idaho National Guard unit that was there before I got there. I remember being green in their tent city down by the water and laundry with the Paladdin blowing illumation rounds in the middle of the night and getting used to taking indirect on a regular basis. Country music, rock and roll, and classical.
Just to set the record staight on this particular video.. Bobby Statum did not make the video. It was my by myself all with the other people in Third Heard Production, 1-163 Medical Platoon, Slice Element from 1-116 Charlie Med
I was Bravo Co. 1-163 Inf. Montana Army National Guard and to this day and to my dying day, I will say we had the poorest leadership that a combat zone could ever have. Walsh and Lorenz both sucked. E-5s and below carried us thru the deployment. Our command was fucked up. I will say, we never took Brads in Hawija, evilEKegg, check yourself. Cuz I was there everyday and got a Purple Heart out of it at a traffic circle. No thanks 2 our fucked up command.
LOL yea...we screwed it up, we went in and told them how shit was gonna work and then wrecked every fuckin haji that dissagreed with us. that nasty girl unit that we got the town from was scared to death to even go in the town except to get to deni west after dark. We set up OP's/safe houses so we could go in and stay and foot patroll that bitch day in and day out. Nasty girl took bradlys in there and thought it was serious buisness lol.
Come on, now if you were really 101st (one-oh-WORST), I was 1-327 inf 101st then and you know them guard guys KICKED ASS! IF you were there, you know 101st coulda used them guys cause the fought the good fight, kicked haji ass and survived!
