Every year in May, when the water level is high enough above the rocks, the Mammamattawa Holistic Education Centre plans a trip up the river to revisit where our community was once held. As if we weren't far enough into the bush already.
We fish, the teachers and volunteer helpers hunt and trap, we visit and clean the grave sites, learn more of our history and ancestors, tell ghost stories around the camp fire, see and spot curious animals that have likely never even made contact with humans (and eat them), enjoy the scenery, and just have a great time overall.
This is that annual trip.
For me, this was an archeological expedition and I was assigned to record all the good times.
