I have a 2 year old pitbull and im considering getting another dog as our house has been broken into, and considering getting a shepherd considering my pit is useless as a guard dog lol. Is there any common health problems, and how much exercise do they need daily

German shepherds truly make me melt. They are the closest to the wolf, so loyal it fills yr heart with joy. Guarding and protecting comes natural to them, with good training and exercise you could not get a better dog.

My german shepherd is such a baby, but when something ever trys to hurt anyone of our family he immediately steps in between and intervenes. Great dogs they are.

@bulleuston76 also the footage shown in this video appears to be schutzhund bite work, for the police they train the dogs to be much much more aggresive and trust me I know many german shepherds that are truly beasts, the are huge and if one of those were to be barking and growling at me I certainly would be worried, I also dont think I would stand a chance, they can get up to speeds of about 38 mph and when they go in for the bite at this speed then almost always knock the helper off their fee

@bulleuston76 I agree that amstaff's would go nuts and not stop, but a good german shepherd from working bloodlines, trained in protection would protect its handler very very well, a good wack to an amstaff could also send it running, but a german shepherd is a very very good protection dog, I work at boarding kennels and my boss was a police dog handler and trains police dogs, he has told me stories of people trying to fight his police dogs off and they have been overpowered many many times.
