  • What he was saying about "the left" in the last segment is totally true.

I've talked to upper west side liberals who think there are sinister FBI plots against muslims. But the same guy dismissed my point that a cleric in a London mosk encouraged doctors to sabotage an opperation, to kill the patient, if he happens to be homosexual.

  • Wow, that was a strong theory he put forward. I can't believe I haven't noticed that before.

    Great post.

  • @neestle I'm sure he's not the only scholar to have it posited it.

  • @ElGeneral09 i heard that mao said"the more books one reads, the more stupid one becomes"and that he only wash his genitals using the vagina of a virgin.

any wonder his great leap forward was more of a drop into a chasm of suffering for china.

he was not much different than stalin for using modernization as an excuse to brutalize civilians and eliminate opponents.

  • He drops the ball on Napoleon, he wasn't a French nationalist, he styled his regime on the roman empire. However his comments on Hitler were fairly accurate.

  • Well Hitchens said the strongest Nationalists, not dictators, often come from 'peripheral' areas, besides Mao was not very nationalistic. He tried to the destroy the ancient Chinese culture, or at least institute social change through the Cultural Revolution, and he fought against the Nationalist during the Chinese Civil War

  • wow. pretty insightful!

  • It's funny, Hitchens theory applies to himself. He has been quoted saying on Bill Maher's show "I hate it when American talk bad about their country".

  • Great video series. Thanks for posting!

  • Hitchens loves Connor Cruise O'Brien, he wrote a book called "God Land" that is very good and talks about the conections between nationalism and religious ferver. I read this book because I knew that Hitchens liked the author. I recomend it.
