With just Melodyne and Ableton Live 8, anyone can take a vocal recording from a portable studio such as a macbook and a simple condenser mic, and transform them into quality vocals. Here are some of the steps I take as a producer "in training" to correct and polish poor vocal recordings.

  • thank you emfwave for sharing. this is an awesome demo. i've been looking for vocal enhancement tutorials here in youtube but never i find a good one like yours. i wonder if the same quality or atleast 90% of it can be achieved without the condenser microphone (just my macbook pro mic) and wanna ask what are the effects you used if you can detail em out as i couldnt see much from the video. thanks so much! great vocals btw

  • @lionhartix Thanks! I don't believe the same quality can be reached without a condenser mic. Condensor mics aren't expensive these days - only about $100 for the Samson I'm using here. The signal chain I use for vocals is 1) EQ; 2) Compressor; 3) Simple Delay; 4) Reverb, and then I have the Waves Musician's Bundle II, which includes a nice chorus plugin called Doubler. Melodyne goes first in the signal chain of course!

  • Wow i gotta say your voice is amazing! perfect for trance music, its so relaxing. I loved this i was looking for a tut on this today couldn't find one and than 7 hours later i stumble upon this amazing!

  • @Dittofication Thanks, my artist name is Michelle Richer. I've had tracks with my vocals played on Tiesto's Club Life program (Catharsis with Slavic Force), and Trance Around the World (Equinox with Kamil Polner). Check these tunes out if you are into vocal trance.

You do have a great voice. I'm not surprised to read you say Tiesto has used your voice. (was a big fan in the 90s) I'm a vocalist/producer in training myself and I'm just curious about the breathing you left in. I'm always wondering if I should delete them or not. Why did you choose not to? thx

  • @Emfwave i see! wonder how heavy they use melodyne and auto-tune to get that glee effect. i didn't get it but they say auto-tune is used to enhance voice but it just sounds T-painish fo me. any tips? thanks for the feedback. you're awesome!

  • @Emfwave Wow that's amazing, Congrats for that vocal track with Ivan Matekuna I'll be checking it!

  • @larararara4 I used to have soundcloud but deleted it. I'm on Myspace as myspace (dotcom)/michellerichermusic and have a website michellerichermusic (dot com). Armin played one of my latest vocal collaborations on this past Sunday's A State of Sunday (014). It's entitled Fly Away with Ivan Mateluna. I've favorited the ASOS rip in my youtube profile. Cheers.

  • @Emfwave Yeah you're right,

You have really beautiful voice, do you have soundcloud or myspace?

here's my site stevemusica.blogspot (dot com) keep making cool tutorial

  • @TornadoTwins Thanks! I was not the original vocal - that would be Emma Hewitt, and this track (Dash Berlin feat. Emma Hewitt) won the IDMA award in 2010. It's a beautiful track. Many of the tracks I've recorded (and released professionally under my artist name Michelle Richer) were recorded on systems not much fancier than what you see here. Technology really is bringing the power of music into the hands of everyone, which is something I absolutely love.

  • @djsixto62 I've upgraded to version 1.2.0 (it was a free update on the license I purchased a little over a year ago).

  • @vStylerJohnG I've been able to copy and paste successfully in Melodyne 1.2.0, but when using Melodyne in Ableton, I don't use the keyboard shortcuts (they conflict with Ableton). Rather, I highlight the Melodyne programming I want to copy, select copy from the Melodyne menu, advance the cursor to the place I want to paste, and select paste.
