Congratulations. I was part of one of the first Family Literacy programmes in NZ, started at Finlayson Park Primary School in Manurewa. Still going strong, mostly due to the passion and commitment of the Principal - Shirley Maihi, that supported the importance of acknowledging the life experiences of the parents involved. Maori and Pacific have long had our own model of learning based entirely around the family and wider. Just look at our communities for the models that work!
I was involved in this programme, and Im not sure what the US ones are like but this one has been really successful. I can find out info about it for you if you want?
