We Speak English in America

And I'd like someone to tell me why our politicians are so afraid to declare English as our nation's official language. France has immigrants, yet their official language is French.

English is the official or an language in 57 countries, but not the United States of America. Why? Its a requirement for citizenship, isn't it?

I'm waiting for the first immigrant who is trying to become a citizen to sue the federal government for civil rights violations for forcing him to learn English, since it's not the country's official language.
