A video demo of the Seymour Duncan Alternative 8. It took me 5 tries to get it on here, I hope this works! Forgive me being a little nervous in front of the camera. Hope you like it!
I didn't have enough time to compare anything, the quality is crap and the file still too big.
Turns out the sound is crap... camera distorts way quicker than my ampo does! Ah well...forgive the playing.

  • I have very little, if any experience with the HZ4, but they never really impressed me. I'd say that if your guitar is a bight bright, or more neutral sounding, go for the A8. It's a very powerful pickup and I never had problems with pinch harmonics or playing metal with it. Can't say I know how well the H4 does them though.

I wouldn't put an A8 in a Mahogany set neck guitar; it'd have a great singing lead voice, but could be a little dark. Look into a Distortion or Custom I'd say :)

  • When demoing like this dont sit with ur guitar so close to the camera, it affects to sound badly.

  • Surely it's the proximity to the amp that matters most, and yes unfortunately my room was so small I was sat as far from my amp as I could... no other choice.

  • Man I hope you read this. I want to thank you for posting this video. I love the pick-ups and I'll try to buy them someday. Thanks for being the 1st person in uploading a vid with this pickups up! Thanks man! take care n merry xmas!

  • Always good to read these, thanks a bunch!

  • How u like the pup? Too bad the cam mic isnt good enough to hear how good it is.

The sounds I want for metal tones are the Adam Jones tone. For solo sounds more subtile, like always with me always with you from satch. I want thick blues tones. Amps brunetti xl-r, marshall superbass, marshall dsl 50. Its this or the Dimarzio air norton.

  • Thick is the world for the Alt8, much more than you can hear on this. Since the Alt8 doesn't behave as much like uber high output pickups out there you can use it with very gainy amps too without having as much mush, but if you use A LOT of gain and want clarity, you could probably go for a FullShred or Custom. But the Alt8 will give you thicker lower gain tones.

  • great playing, man! thanks for the test!

  • wtf

  • Hottest passive Alnico pick up that is..:)

  • @kikiriki94 The DiMarzio Evolution has ceramic magnets and higher output. The Seymour Duncan Alternative 8 has Alnico 8 magnets, and is prob the hottest Alnico magnet pick-up you will come across.

  • @Frenchpott:

I'd put this baby in my Gibson SG Special ... I can say that this one is THE PU!

Hard, rough, clean as hell and splits thorugh all types of Overdrive or Dist. The best PU I've ever heard of hear something of. i love this one :D

  • Great Kurt Cobain's ghost, somebody should put this puppy in the bridge of a Hi-Flier!

  • SD alternative 8 or DiMarzio evolution?

  • Seymour Duncan Alternative 8 or DiMarzio Evolution, pls help

  • I cant decide whether to get this or the EMG HZ H4 for my new bridge pickup. I play metal and alot of rock and I cant decide. The main thing I want from the pickup is great pinch harmonics. Which pickup is better for pinch harmonics?
