James Dinwiddie @ State 2007

Ha ha! My other favorite drum major of the competition! State Championships was his fourth appearance, competing only three times before, and placing twice on his third competition; thus qualifying him for State in the Apprentice and Majors divisions.
James, from Kennedy High School, had a decent run for the Apprentice division that day, but this one takes the cake for me. How do you know when your student has accomplished his training well? It's when you prepare him for unexpected things, and having him keep his cool and finish off well.
In this video he performs in Mace Majors Division. Watch James' entrance to counter-march routine. He has his chin up so high, that when he did his left roundhouse his mace smacked his shako and slammed his visor against his nose. What makes this special is that he kept his cool the whole time. James ran through the remainder of his L performance practically blind, stayed in-step, and also managed an amazing 6/6 for his salute! Now that's a drum major, and that's great training! Good job James!
Especially since he's a freshman!
