INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE CARDBOARD PENDANT:

☼ What You'll Need For The Base:
1 Piece of Medium Weight Cardboard
1 Eye Pin Finding
Hot Glue Gun

Just cut a shape out and trace it on to the extra cardboard to create a double. Crimp the Eye Pin side to side and make sure it fits your shape properly- then slather glue over one side of a cardboard face, plop down the crimped eye pin so that the eye is centered at the top and then glue one face of the second cardboard cutout- press together to form a 'sandwich' and then cut any excess cardboard edges to make the edges as even as possible.

NOTE: Work quickly so the hot glue doesn't dry too much- if it DOES dry too much run the hot tip of the gun along the solidified glue to "soften" it up a bit.

☼ What You'll Need To Decorate:
Decorative Paper (News Paper, Magazine, Tissue Paper etc.)
Elmer's Glue (Don't forget to add a bit of water to thin it down!)
Paint Brush (Preferably an old one, you're gluing with it!)

So, you've made your base and now it is time to decorate. Just remember to start sticking on your lettering by starting on the edges- then when you get to the center make sure to cover both faces with letters prior to adding your final touches such as phrases or words. You want to do 'feature' things last so you can place them anywhere without having to position them to hide cardboard!

BONUS: If you've decided to decoupage on something other than cardboard or rough surfaces make sure to sand the surface first. Both my plastic 'RANSOM' box and my paint brush were sanded prior to decoupaging- so was the giant pin shown at the beginning. Sanding is key to decoupaging on slick/smooth objects. Where will the glue adhere to if it's completely smooth?

☼ LAST STEP!
Let it dry and use some glaze to seal the pendant.

I'm using Judikins Diamond Glaze since it is VERY solid/shiny when it dries!
Nailpolish may be used but it's not strong at all. (Will wear off/peel off easily)

IMPORTANT! Decoupage the edges of the pendant first and THEN decorate the middle. Don't decorate the faces and then attempt to "wrap" the edges because not only will you ruin the decorations that you spent so much time on but you will also have weak edges which are even more prone to peeling.

Remember that by doing the edges first and then decoupaging overlapping them it will help hold the edges down more securely. Also, make sure to let it dry after doing the edges- this will help you hold it without wrinkling and pushing the wrapped edges out of place while you attempt to work on the faces of the pendant. Have fun with it and experiment with different papers!

One last idea- if you find something awesome while you are clipping out your letters don't be afraid to set it aside and reserve it for a special place on your pendant project. See the perfect letters to spell out LOVE? Set them aside and make sure to place them last in the perfect position- planned perfection!

  • how did u do the brush

  • @emmataco23 The same way I did the pendant.

  • Would this work with wooden pendants?

  • @JCGirl24 Yeah, it just wouldn't be fully recycled then. It would, however, be a bit more sturdy.

  • Will nail polish work instead of the diamond glaze? I can't find any in any of the craft stores in my area.

  • @Reemaew It may work but I never use it so I can't really tell you how well it would work.

  • 15:43 it looks like a mini ransom flag haha

  • You are amazing, I wish I had your creative mind. Thanks for sharing, I enjoy your tutorials, I will subscribe after this post. I pray you get over your insomnia.

  • @NerdsEveryWhere9 I have a hard time finding Diamond Glaze in my area too, so I use Impex 3-D Crystal Lacquer. It's my favorite because I can rub it on with my fingers, it dries quickly and has a gorgeous glass-like finish. If I can't find that, I use Glossy Accents by Ranger or Anita's 3-D Clear Gloss Finish.

  • @NerdsEveryWhere9 I don't know really. It's trial and error.
